Hyde Park Barracks and Vaucluse House

The Hyde Park Barracks is an extraordinary record of the living legacy of colonial Australia. Originally built to house convicts, the Barracks also served as a women’s immigration depot and asylum, and later law courts and government offices. Today this immersive museum tells the stories of the thousands of men, women and children held or housed there, and the Aboriginal communities profoundly impacted by the relentless push of colonial expansion. This self-guided audio experience uses immersive audio technology which is designed to make you feel as if you have stepped back in time. You will be given a sanitised iPod and headphones on arrival. Vaucluse House is one of Sydney's few 19th century mansions still surrounded by it's original gardens & wooded grounds. Take a self-guided tour of the estate for a window into life in the early part of Australian history, with staff on hand to provide information and assist when needed. Situated within the beautiful Victorian style gardens of one of Sydney's grandest mansions, Estate Vaucluse House is our destination for a decadent High Tea lunch including a glass of sparkling wine.
