Day 1
Home - Melbourne - Shepparton
After flying into Melbourne, enjoy lunch before travelling to Shepparton, a city located on the floodplain of the Goulburn River in northern Victoria. The city is located in one of Australia's Food Bowls and is famous for its surrounding food production of fruits, vegetables and cereals, and lays within a rich dairy farming region. Discover the history, art and culture of the region during a locally guided tour of the district before settling into our overnight accommodation.
Day 2
Shepparton - Beechworth
After breakfast, travel to the Glenrowan Tourist Centre for an interactive theatrical production of the Ned Kelly story. Next, visit the stunning Holy Trinity Cathedral in Wangaratta and admire its beautiful architecture and stained glass windows during a guided tour. After lunch, visit the El Dorado Museum which holds a collection that reflects mining, farming and social history of the area from 1850-1950. Continue on to Beechworth to settle in for our overnight stay.
Day 3
Beechworth - Harrietville
Today will start with a guided town tour of historic Beechworth, highlighting its interesting past. We then set off for Mount Beauty, located in the rich, fertile Kiewa Valley at the foot of Victoria's highest mountain - Mt Bogong. During a visit to the Mt Beauty Information Centre, we'll learn about the Hydro Electric Scheme which is an integral part of the area. Continue on to Falls Creek within the Alpine National Park, before arriving into the beautiful town of Harrietville.
Day 4
Harrietville - Lakes Entrance
The landscape changes from Alpine Ash to beautiful forests of Snow Gums and heathland as we climb to Mount Hotham; Victoria's highest alpine village. As we continue on through the old gold town of Omeo, the landscape changes again to lush grazing paddocks and offers vistas over the mountains. This afternoon, travel via Bruthen, a small rustic village overlooking the Tambo River, before arriving in Lakes Entrance for the next two nights.
Day 5
Lakes Entrance
The Gippsland Lakes consists of five main lakes, fed by the waters of four major rivers, and is fringed by the Ninety Mile Beach. Covering over 400 square kilometres of lakes, rivers and lagoons, the system is the biggest expanse of inland waterways in the southern hemisphere. Today we board the ML Stormbird to cruise around 30kms of pristine waterways into Lake King, spotting dolphins and viewing the wildlife on assorted islands. Following lunch at the Metung Hotel, enjoy some free time to explore the area before reboarding our vessel. Continue around Rigby Island and Chinamans Creek before returning back.
Day 6
Lakes Entrance - Goulburn
Today we leave the coastal charm of Lakes Entrance behind, winding your way through lush forests and open countryside until you reach Cann River, the perfect spot for a cuppa. Back on the road, join the Monaro Highway, where the landscape stretches toward the alpine plains. Arrive in Cooma, taking time to purchase your own lunch while taking in the town's charm as you wander the main street. Continue on to Goulburn to settle in for our overnight stay.
Day 7
Goulburn - Home
After breakfast, journey into the beautiful Southern Highlands, stopping at Moss Vale's Leighton Gardens. We then continue on to Mittagong for morning tea before making our way to Sydney, enjoying a picnic lunch along the way.
